In some class action litigation, funds remain unclaimed after distribution to the plaintiffs. The cy-pres doctrine permits the designation of the residual funds to a non-profit charitable organization whose work advances the public interest issues presented by the litigation. Being a recipient of these awards is an invaluable way to honor and advance the interests of the most vulnerable workers and families.
